Kung Fu - NES is a side-scrolling martial arts action game that challenges players to fight through a multi-floor temple filled with enemies and powerful bosses. Players control Thomas, a skilled fighter on a mission to rescue Sylvia, battling waves of attackers with punches, kicks, and precise movement while climbing toward the top of the tower.
Gameplay is fast and straightforward, with enemies approaching from both sides and requiring quick reactions to avoid being overwhelmed. Thomas can use standing and jumping attacks, crouch to avoid certain threats, and time strikes carefully against stronger opponents. Each floor introduces different enemy patterns and hazards, while boss encounters test the player’s timing, spacing, and understanding of attack ranges.
Developed by Irem and published for the NES by Nintendo in 1985, Kung Fu is a home-console version of the arcade game Kung-Fu Master. Its simple controls, escalating difficulty, and direct martial arts action helped establish the side-scrolling beat ’em up formula and make it an appealing choice for retro action fans and NES collectors.
