Tetris Attack for Game Boy is a fast-paced puzzle game that challenges players to clear colorful blocks by matching three or more of the same type before the stack reaches the top of the screen. Despite its name, the game is not a traditional Tetris title. Instead, it features the addictive tile-matching gameplay that would later become known as the Panel de Pon series, delivering a unique puzzle experience that rewards quick thinking and strategic planning.
Players swap adjacent blocks to create horizontal or vertical matches, causing them to disappear and allowing new blocks to fall into place. Building large combos and chain reactions earns higher scores while helping keep the playfield under control as the stack continually rises. As the pace increases, players must react quickly and plan several moves ahead to survive.
The Game Boy version includes multiple gameplay modes, offering both relaxed puzzle-solving and increasingly challenging score-based gameplay.
