Description

Dragon Quest II - Famicom, released in Japan as ドラゴンクエストII 悪霊の神々 (Dragon Quest II: Akuryō no Kamigami), is a role-playing adventure that follows the descendants of the legendary hero Roto as they unite against the evil sorcerer Hargon. The Japanese subtitle 悪霊の神々 translates roughly to “Gods of the Evil Spirits,” while later official English releases use the subtitle Luminaries of the Legendary Line.

Gameplay expands significantly on the original Dragon Quest with a party of three heroes, a much larger world, battles against multiple enemies, and a ship that opens new areas for exploration. Players control the Prince of Midenhall and recruit the Prince of Cannock and Princess of Moonbrooke, each bringing different strengths in physical combat and magic. Towns, caves, castles, equipment upgrades, and turn-based battles form the core of the adventure.

Developed by Chunsoft and published by Enix in 1987, Dragon Quest II was released for the Japanese Family Computer and features Japanese-language text. Its expanded party system, ambitious world design, challenging progression, and importance to the development of console RPGs make it an appealing choice for Dragon Quest fans and Famicom collectors.
