Description

Dragon Quest IV - Famicom, released in Japan as ドラゴンクエストIV 導かれし者たち (Dragon Quest IV: Michibikareshi Monotachi), is a role-playing game whose subtitle is officially rendered in English as Chapters of the Chosen. The adventure unfolds through multiple chapters, each introducing different heroes whose stories eventually converge in a quest to oppose the rising threat of Psaro.

Gameplay uses traditional turn-based battles while giving each chapter its own characters, goals, and style of progression. Players experience the journeys of warriors, merchants, princesses, and other adventurers before taking control of the Hero and assembling the full party. The final chapter introduces an AI-driven tactics system for party members, while exploration includes towns, castles, caves, equipment upgrades, magic, vehicles, and a large interconnected world.

Developed by Chunsoft and published by Enix in 1990, Dragon Quest IV was released for the Japanese Family Computer and features Japanese-language text. Its chapter-based storytelling, memorable ensemble cast, evolving party system, and ambitious structure helped distinguish it from earlier entries, making it an important title for Dragon Quest fans, RPG enthusiasts, and Famicom collectors.
