Description

Fire Emblem Gaiden - Famicom, released in Japan as ファイアーエムブレム外伝, is a tactical role-playing game and the second entry in the Fire Emblem series. Set on the continent of Valentia, the story follows childhood friends Alm and Celica as they lead separate armies through a conflict between the kingdoms of Rigel and Zofia.

Gameplay combines grid-based tactical battles with role-playing progression while introducing several unusual mechanics to the series. Players alternate between Alm and Celica’s armies, move across an overworld map, recruit new allies, promote characters into stronger classes, and explore dungeons for equipment and encounters. Magic consumes a character’s HP rather than relying on limited spell uses, while certain classes can follow branching promotion paths, giving the game a distinct identity compared with other early Fire Emblem titles.

Developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo in 1992, Fire Emblem Gaiden was released exclusively for the Japanese Family Computer and features Japanese-language text. Its dual-protagonist story, experimental RPG mechanics, exploration elements, and importance to the series’ history make it an appealing choice for Fire Emblem fans and Famicom collectors.
