Punch-Out!! - NES is a boxing game that follows Little Mac, an undersized fighter from the Bronx, as he climbs the ranks of the World Video Boxing Association. With trainer Doc Louis in his corner, players face a memorable lineup of colorful opponents, each with distinctive personalities, fighting styles, attack patterns, and weaknesses to learn.
Gameplay emphasizes timing, observation, dodging, blocking, and counterpunching rather than button-mashing. Little Mac can throw left and right punches to the head or body, avoid incoming attacks, and earn powerful uppercuts by landing well-timed blows. Fighters such as Glass Joe, King Hippo, Bald Bull, and Mr. Sandman require different strategies, while a password system allows players to continue from later circuits after progressing through the rankings.
Developed and published by Nintendo, Punch-Out!! was released for the NES in North America in 1990 as an updated version of Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!. This edition replaces Mike Tyson with the fictional champion Mr. Dream as the final opponent. Its precise controls, memorable roster, pattern-based challenge, and iconic presentation make it a standout NES sports title.
