Description
Description
River City Ransom for the Nintendo Entertainment System is a groundbreaking action beat-'em-up that blends side-scrolling combat with role-playing elements, creating one of the most beloved cult classics on the NES. As high school tough guys Alex and Ryan, you'll fight your way across River City to rescue Ryan's girlfriend, Cyndi, from the ruthless gang leader Slick and his army of street punks.
Battle through neighborhoods, shopping districts, schools, and back alleys using punches, kicks, grapples, and an incredible variety of improvised weapons, including pipes, chains, trash cans, and even defeated enemies. Defeat rival gangs to earn money, then spend your hard-earned cash at restaurants, bookstores, and shops to permanently increase your stats, learn new combat techniques, and unlock powerful special moves. The game also features an outstanding two-player cooperative mode, allowing a friend to join the action from start to finish.
Developed by Technōs Japan and published by American Technos in North America in 1990, River City Ransom was far ahead of its time with its open-ended progression, character customization, RPG-inspired mechanics, and humorous writing. Its unique gameplay has earned it a lasting reputation as one of the finest and most influential titles in the NES library.
Whether you're expanding your Nintendo Entertainment System collection, collecting classic beat-'em-ups, or discovering a retro gaming masterpiece, River City Ransom delivers unforgettable cooperative gameplay, satisfying combat, and a timeless adventure through the streets of River City.
