Players take on the role of the warrior Rygar as he explores the mythical land of Argool in a quest to defeat the evil Ligar and restore peace. Gameplay centers on combat using the Diskarmor, a shield-like weapon attached to a chain that allows for both offense and defense. Enemy encounters are frequent and require precise timing and positioning.
The NES version introduces a non-linear world connected by towns, dungeons, and outdoor areas.
