Description

Tsuppari Oozumou - Famicom, known in Japan as つっぱり大相撲, is a sumo wrestling game from Tecmo built around fast one-on-one matches in the dohyo. Players control a sumo wrestler and compete against a series of opponents, using traditional techniques and well-timed attacks to force rivals out of the ring or bring them to the ground.

Gameplay emphasizes positioning, timing, and momentum, with players able to push, slap, grapple, and execute different sumo techniques depending on the situation. Matches are short and intense, requiring quick reactions as opponents attempt to gain control of the center of the ring. Progression through competition introduces stronger wrestlers and increasingly difficult bouts, giving the simple control scheme a challenging arcade-style feel.

Developed and published by Tecmo, Tsuppari Oozumou was released for the Japanese Family Computer in 1987 and features Japanese-language text and presentation. Its distinctive sumo theme, compact match structure, colorful 8-bit graphics, and early place in Tecmo’s Famicom catalog make it an appealing choice for import collectors, retro sports fans, and enthusiasts of uniquely Japanese games.
