Description

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light - Famicom, released in Japan as ファイアーエムブレム 暗黒竜と光の剣 (Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryū to Hikari no Tsurugi), is a tactical role-playing game and the first entry in the Fire Emblem series. Players follow Prince Marth of Altea as he gathers allies and fights to reclaim his homeland from forces led by the revived Shadow Dragon Medeus.

Gameplay takes place on grid-based battlefields where players command individual units with different classes, weapons, movement ranges, and combat strengths. Characters gain experience and grow stronger through battle, while new allies can be recruited during the campaign. The game introduced the series’ signature permanent-death system, meaning defeated units can be lost for the remainder of the adventure and making careful positioning and strategy especially important.

Developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo in 1990, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light was originally released for the Japanese Family Computer and features Japanese-language text. Its introduction of Marth, tactical battles, character recruitment, and permanent consequences established the foundation for one of Nintendo’s longest-running strategy RPG franchises, making it an important title for Fire Emblem fans and Famicom collectors.
