Sonic Riders - Xbox is a high-speed racing game that puts Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and other familiar characters on futuristic hoverboards known as Extreme Gear. The story follows Sonic’s rivalry with Jet the Hawk and the Babylon Rogues as both teams compete in the EX World Grand Prix, leading to a larger mystery surrounding the legendary Babylon Garden.
Gameplay combines racing, tricks, shortcuts, and an air-management system that requires players to balance speed with their Extreme Gear’s remaining air supply. Racers can ride turbulence trails created by opponents to gain speed, perform tricks from ramps, and use character-specific abilities to access alternate routes. Speed, Flight, and Power character types each interact with courses differently, while additional gear and characters can be unlocked through progression.
Developed by Sonic Team and Now Production and published by SEGA in 2006, Sonic Riders offers a distinct racing style compared with traditional Sonic games. Its fast courses, hoverboard mechanics, Babylon Rogues storyline, unlockable content, and competitive multiplayer make it an appealing choice for Sonic fans and original Xbox collectors.
