Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards - Nintendo 64 is a colorful side-scrolling platformer that follows Kirby on a journey to recover the shattered pieces of a magical crystal. After the fairy Ribbon escapes from Ripple Star and crashes on Pop Star, Kirby joins her quest to collect the scattered Crystal Shards and stop the return of the mysterious Dark Matter.
Gameplay combines traditional Kirby platforming with a unique ability-combination system. Kirby can inhale enemies to copy powers such as Fire, Ice, Cutter, Bomb, and Stone, then combine two abilities to create new attacks with different effects. Players explore 2.5D stages, defeat bosses, uncover hidden Crystal Shards, and receive help from characters including Waddle Dee, Adeleine, and King Dedede as the adventure progresses across multiple worlds.
Developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo in 2000, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards was Kirby's first major adventure on Nintendo 64.
