Kirby: Mass Attack - Nintendo DS is a touch-controlled action-platformer that puts a unique spin on the Kirby series. After the villain Necrodeus divides Kirby into ten smaller versions of himself, players must guide the group across the Popopo Islands, rebuild Kirby’s strength, and defeat the forces threatening his world.
Gameplay is controlled primarily with the Nintendo DS stylus rather than traditional buttons. Players tap the touchscreen to direct the Kirbys, fling them at enemies, grab objects, solve environmental puzzles, and navigate hazards. Collecting fruit increases the size of the group until as many as ten Kirbys can be controlled at once, while certain stages and obstacles require a specific number of Kirbys to continue. Hidden medals and alternate paths add extra incentive for exploration.
Developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo in 2011, Kirby: Mass Attack stands out for its inventive use of the Nintendo DS touchscreen and its large-group gameplay.
