Akuji: The Heartless for PlayStation is a dark action-adventure inspired by African mythology and developed by Crystal Dynamics. Players take on the role of Akuji, a respected warrior who is betrayed and sacrificed on his wedding day by his jealous brother. Cast into the underworld, Akuji must battle through a realm of spirits and monsters in an effort to reclaim his soul, rescue his beloved, and seek vengeance against those who wronged him.
Armed with mystical weapons, magical abilities, and the guidance of powerful spirits, players explore eerie environments filled with dangerous enemies, environmental hazards, and hidden secrets. Combat emphasizes melee attacks while magical powers provide additional ways to overcome supernatural threats and solve challenges.
The adventure spans a variety of atmospheric locations inspired by mythological interpretations of the afterlife, with each stage introducing new creatures, puzzles, and powerful bosses that stand between Akuji and his redemption. Exploration and careful resource management are key to surviving the increasingly perilous journey.
