Castlevania Chronicles for PlayStation is a faithful yet enhanced remake of the original Castlevania game first released on the Famicom Disk System in 1986. This version is based on the Japan-exclusive Sharp X68000 remake, which featured updated graphics, music, and level design. The PlayStation release includes both the original X68000 mode and an Arrange Mode with new character sprites, a remixed soundtrack, and gameplay tweaks that make it slightly more accessible without sacrificing challenge.
Players take control of Simon Belmont once again as he makes his way through Dracula’s castle armed with his iconic Vampire Killer whip and an arsenal of sub-weapons. Classic platforming, punishing difficulty, and a brooding gothic atmosphere make this a standout for fans of traditional 2D Castlevania games.
Often referred to as Castlevania PS1 Chronicles or Chronicles Castlevania, this version is ideal for collectors and longtime fans of the series. It bridges the gap between old-school NES-style gameplay and the more polished feel of later 32-bit era titles.
