Splatoon - Wii U is a colorful third-person action game from Nintendo centered on teams of Inklings battling with ink-based weapons. Set in the vibrant city of Inkopolis, players compete across imaginative arenas while covering territory in their team’s color. Inklings can transform into squid form to swim quickly through friendly ink, refill ammunition, and reach areas that are otherwise inaccessible.
Gameplay blends shooting, movement, and territory control, with weapons ranging from rapid-fire shooters and rollers to chargers and other specialized equipment. The primary multiplayer mode, Turf War, challenges two teams to cover as much of the stage as possible before time expires, while Ranked Battle introduced more objective-focused competition. A single-player campaign, Octo Valley, features platforming stages, enemy encounters, and boss battles that teach players how to use Splatoon’s movement and combat mechanics.
Developed and published by Nintendo in 2015, Splatoon introduced one of the company’s most successful modern franchises. The Wii U version originally relied heavily on online multiplayer, but Nintendo ended online services for Wii U software in 2024. Its inventive ink mechanics, distinctive style, and single-player content still make it an important release for Wii U collectors and Nintendo fans.
