Super Mario Bros. 2 - NES
Description
Description
Super Mario Bros. 2 - NES is a colorful platforming adventure that sends Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool, and Toad into the dream world of Subcon. Players set out to defeat the villainous Wart and his army while traveling through deserts, caves, waterfalls, and other imaginative environments filled with unusual enemies and hidden secrets.
Gameplay differs significantly from the original Super Mario Bros., allowing players to pick up and throw vegetables, enemies, and other objects instead of relying primarily on stomping attacks. Each of the four playable characters has different strengths, with Luigi jumping higher, Toad moving quickly while carrying items, and Princess Toadstool able to hover briefly. Levels feature doors, keys, potions, hidden areas, and boss encounters that reward exploration and experimentation.
Developed and published by Nintendo, Super Mario Bros. 2 was released for the NES in North America in 1988. The game was adapted from Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic and introduced several enemies and gameplay ideas that later became staples of the Mario series. Its distinctive mechanics, varied characters, and memorable worlds make it an essential NES platformer.
