Description

Relive the pride and the peril in the 16-bit masterpiece, The Lion King for the SEGA Genesis. Developed by the legendary team at Westwood Studios using actual hand-drawn cells from Disney’s animators, this 1994 title is widely considered one of the most beautiful games of its generation. It is a mandatory, high-energy essential for Disney collectors and Genesis fans who want to experience the "Circle of Life" through fluid animation and high-stakes platforming.

Ditch the easy strolls and master the evolving gameplay mechanics as you grow from a cub into a king. You’ll start as Young Simba, utilizing "pounce" attacks and roars to navigate the African savanna and the treacherous Elephant Graveyard. Mid-way through the journey, the game shifts as you grow into Adult Simba, introducing visceral mauling and tossing combat to take down hyenas and face off against Scar on Pride Rock. The gameplay is famous for its punishing difficulty—specifically the frantic "I Just Can’t Wait to Be King" and "Stampede" levels—requiring precision timing and reflex-driven platforming. With its award-winning 16-bit renditions of Elton John’s soundtrack and vibrant, multi-layered backgrounds, this title delivers a definitive and legendary 16-bit Disney experience on your original SEGA hardware.

The best Disney Lion King platform game on Sega Genesis

I have played the lion king on SNES and recently I played it on Sega Genesis and there's version differences from the SNES port. For one the animations background and cartoon animal character sprites are more detailed on Sega than on SNES. Also the game plays funky Sega music. Some of the voice acting effects like the word "Cool!" has been removed for unknown reasons. There's also the iconic cutscene moments from the lion king film.

While the SNES version is hard for some of the platform levels like running on an ostrich dodging hogs and tree branches, being chased by a rolling boulder rock like with Indiana Jones. The stampede dodging section can be hard and tricky to dodge wilder beasts and rocks on ground. There's a level with lava adult Simba has to navigate.

Also Simba the lion, Timon and pumba and the rest of the animals are undressed meaning they don't wear clothes but it wouldn't be practical since they don't have hands and are in the savannah grasslands, desert, Oasis and would look funnier and impractical.

I enjoy the Timon and pumba stages collecting falling bugs or jumping for bugs while avoiding spiders.

While I enjoyed the Sega Genesis version of the Lion King, there's a harder boss version of scar you have to throw off a cliff and it was frustrating trying to button mash a combo since it's harder to pull off wrestling with scar and throwing him to his death.

Anyways this is a Disney Sega game Disney fans should pick up in this store or online because it's worth your time and money. But be warned kids may get frustrated by some of the difficult sections of this platform game. But overall it's one of the best Disney games ever on Sega Genesis right next to Aladdin Sega game. Enjoy this fun challenging Sega Disney lion king game.
