Description

Disney’s Toy Story for the SEGA Genesis adapts Pixar’s groundbreaking animated film into a colorful action-platforming adventure that follows the events of the movie. The story centers on Woody, a loyal cowboy doll who struggles to accept the arrival of Buzz Lightyear, a flashy new toy who threatens his place as Andy’s favorite. When the two toys are accidentally separated from their owner, Woody must overcome his jealousy and work to reunite with Buzz while finding his way back home.

Players primarily control Woody as he navigates a variety of levels inspired by scenes from the film, including Andy’s house, Pizza Planet, and the dangerous home of toy-destroying neighbor Sid. Gameplay blends side-scrolling platforming with light shooting mechanics, as Woody uses tools like a pull-string attack, bouncing balls, and suction cups to defeat enemies and solve environmental challenges. Certain stages allow players to control other characters, such as RC the race car, adding variety to the pacing and mechanics.

Often referred to simply as Toy Story Genesis, this title is notable for its impressive visuals that closely mirror the look of the film, using detailed sprites and animation to bring the characters to life on 16-bit hardware. With its faithful retelling of the movie, varied gameplay styles, and strong presentation, Disney’s Toy Story stands out as one of the most polished and memorable movie-based games released on the SEGA Genesis.

The best Pixar Toy Story game on Sega Genesis but it's a hard platform

I have played the Sega Genesis version of Toy Story 1 and I enjoyed the game. You play as Woody as you have to get buzz lightyear back. This game has amazing graphics and funky music. I like that you can collect 50 stars and get an extra life. This Sega Genesis version has an extra bonus level and an RC racing game and the song you've got a friend in me not featured in the SNES version.

The games can get very tough especially when you have to get Woody's pull string on a hook, also some of the boss fights involving buzz lightyear and the hardest the claw boss, rc racing battery drain and the auto scrolling levels can be frustrating to get through. But once you complete the final gliding level you win the game.

This is one of the best Disney Pixar games for Sega Genesis and I'm impressed that the first CGI film translated well to a 2d platform game. Be warned this is a hard kids game. In conclusion I would highly recommend you buy this game even if it is challenging. You'll need a Sega Genesis console official or clone to play it on. If you see this game buy it because it's worth your time and money for Disney Pixar fans and veteran gamers.
