Medal of Honor: Rising Sun - PlayStation 2 is a World War II first-person shooter set in the Pacific Theater. Players take the role of Marine Corporal Joseph Griffin, beginning during the attack on Pearl Harbor before fighting through a series of missions across locations in the Pacific and Southeast Asia as Allied forces battle the Japanese military.
Gameplay combines first-person shooting with mission-based objectives, vehicle sequences, mounted weapons, and large-scale combat encounters. Players use period firearms while completing assignments involving sabotage, infiltration, rescues, and direct assaults. The campaign moves through environments such as jungles, military installations, villages, and war-torn urban areas. The PlayStation 2 version also includes multiplayer options, allowing players to compete against one another in split-screen matches using a selection of maps and characters.
Developed by EA Los Angeles and published by Electronic Arts in 2003, Medal of Honor: Rising Sun shifted the series away from its earlier European settings to explore major events and battles of the Pacific campaign.
