Metroid: Other M - Wii is an action-adventure game that follows bounty hunter Samus Aran after the events of Super Metroid. Responding to a mysterious distress signal known as “Baby’s Cry,” Samus boards the Bottle Ship and reunites with members of the Galactic Federation, including her former commanding officer Adam Malkovich, while investigating the station’s dangerous secrets.
Gameplay blends third-person exploration and combat with first-person aiming controlled by pointing the Wii Remote at the screen. Samus can perform fast dodges, melee-style finishing moves, charge shots, and familiar abilities such as Morph Ball techniques while exploring interconnected environments and battling hostile creatures. The game also includes puzzle-solving, item collection, and cinematic story sequences that place a stronger emphasis on Samus’s personal history and relationships.
Developed by Team Ninja in collaboration with Nintendo and published by Nintendo in 2010, Metroid: Other M took a different approach from the first-person Metroid Prime games by combining 2D-inspired movement with 3D action. Its unusual control scheme, story-driven presentation, and place in the Metroid timeline make it an interesting choice for series fans and collectors building a Nintendo Wii library.
