Disgaea: Hour of Darkness - PlayStation 2 is a tactical role-playing game set in the Netherworld, where demon prince Laharl awakens from a long sleep to discover that his father has died and the throne is up for grabs. Joined by the sarcastic demon Etna and the angel trainee Flonne, Laharl sets out to reclaim his position while becoming caught in a larger conflict involving demons, angels, and humans.
Gameplay takes place on grid-based battlefields and emphasizes character positioning, team attacks, special abilities, and extensive customization. Players can recruit and create a wide variety of character classes, level equipment inside the Item World, and use systems such as Geo Panels to alter battlefield effects. The game is especially known for its unusually high level caps, deep character growth, and the ability to reincarnate characters to build even stronger units over time.
Developed by Nippon Ichi Software and published in North America by Atlus in 2003, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness launched a long-running strategy RPG series.
