Pokken Tournament - Wii U is a fighting game that brings Pokémon battles into real-time 3D arenas with gameplay inspired by traditional competitive fighters. Players choose from Pokémon such as Pikachu, Lucario, Charizard, Gengar, Machamp, and others, each featuring unique attacks, movement styles, and special abilities based on their familiar moves from the Pokémon series.
Gameplay alternates between open 3D Field Phase movement and the more traditional side-on Duel Phase, creating battles that reward both positioning and precise combos. Players can use standard attacks, Pokémon moves, counters, grabs, and powerful Synergy Burst abilities while calling Support Pokémon for additional assistance. Modes include the Ferrum League single-player progression, training, local battles, and originally online competition, although Nintendo ended official Wii U online services in 2024.
Developed by Bandai Namco Studios and released for Wii U in 2016, Pokken Tournament combines Pokémon characters with fighting-game mechanics influenced by Bandai Namco’s experience with series such as Tekken.
