Nintendo Direct September 2025 Recap: Mario’s 40th Anniversary & Huge New Game Reveals

Nintendo’s September 12, 2025 Nintendo Direct was packed with announcements celebrating the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. and showcasing a broad lineup of upcoming titles for both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. From galaxy-spanning Mario adventures to new RPGs, DLC, and major third-party reveals, fans now have plenty to look forward to—many of which are available to pre-order or wishlist today.


Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary

Shigeru Miyamoto kicked off the presentation with special announcements for Mario’s 40th anniversary:

  • Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 bundle launches October 2, 2025, with enhanced visuals, updated controls, and new Storybook content. A Switch 2 update adds 4K resolution.
  • Two new amiibo figures (Mario & Luma, Rosalina & Lumas) arrive April 2, 2026.
  • An illustrated hardcover Rosalina’s Storybook is coming via the My Nintendo Store.
  • The next Super Mario animated film was revealed: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, hitting theaters worldwide April 3, 2026.

First-Party Highlights

Nintendo also revealed major updates for its biggest franchises:

  • Metroid Prime 4: Beyond launches December 4, 2025, on both Switch and Switch 2, introducing a new planet, psychic abilities, and Samus’s bike, the Vi-O-La. New amiibo figures arrive alongside release.
  • Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Mega Dimension DLC adds new Mega Evolutions and storylines later this year.
  • Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment (Nov. 6, 2025) explores key events tied to Tears of the Kingdom.
  • Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave debuts in 2026 with a new arena-driven tactical RPG story.
  • Pokémon Pokopia lets players shape a paradise as a Ditto-turned-human, launching 2026.
  • Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Mario Tennis Fever, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Switch 2 Edition all launch in 2026.
