In 007: From Russia With Love, the James Bond franchise achieved a historic milestone: the return of Sean Connery. Released in 2005, this was the first and only time the original 007 provided both his voice and likeness for a video game. While the game is an adaptation of the 1963 classic film, it serves as an "extended cut," adding high-octane sequences like a jetpack escape from the Parliament building and a high-speed chase in the iconic Aston Martin DB5 (which actually debuted in Goldfinger).
The gameplay is a third-person shooter that introduced the "Bond Focus" system. By zooming in on enemies, the camera slows down and highlights "weak spots"—like a grenade hanging from a belt or a radio—allowing you to take out foes with surgical precision. The game also features "RPG-lite" elements where you earn points to upgrade your gadgets and weapons, such as the Q-Siren and the Q-Raptor remote-control helicopter. Due to licensing issues at the time, the villainous organization SPECTRE was renamed to "OCTOPUS," though the plot remains a faithful Cold War espionage thriller.
