Alias is a third-person stealth-action title developed by Acclaim Studios Cheltenham and published by Acclaim Entertainment. Released in April 2004, the game serves as a canonical bridge between episodes 19 and 20 of the television series' second season. The production features an authentic cinematic experience, utilizing the original voice cast—including Jennifer Garner as Sydney Bristow—and a score composed by Michael Giacchino. The plot, penned by show writers, follows Sydney on a global hunt for a brainwashing device tied to the visionary Milo Rambaldi.
The gameplay emphasizes Sydney’s dual expertise in martial arts and espionage, featuring motion-captured combat with blocks, counters, and disarm moves. To infiltrate high-security locations like a Monte Carlo casino or a Romanian asylum, players must utilize a variety of alluring disguises and high-tech gadgets, such as fingerprint replicators and remote hacking devices. A technically unique "split-screen camera" provides a tactical advantage by allowing players to peek around corners and see upcoming obstacles without breaking cover. Between missions, players must complete specialized mini-games, including lock picking and lie detector tests, to gather critical intelligence.
Technically, the PlayStation 2 version supports Dolby Pro Logic II surround sound, enhancing the atmospheric spy-thriller audio. The game uses the RenderWare engine to deliver detailed character models and environment structures that mirror the aesthetic of the TV show. Players can customize their experience through a variety of options, including Stealth Toggle and Combat Lock settings to refine Sydney's movement during intense encounters.
