e-Reader - Game Boy Advance
Description
Description
e-Reader - Game Boy Advance is a unique Nintendo accessory that expands compatible Game Boy Advance games by scanning specially designed e-Reader cards. The device plugs directly into the Game Boy Advance cartridge slot and uses an optical scanner to read encoded data printed along the edges of compatible cards, unlocking games, characters, items, levels, and other bonus content.
The e-Reader was used with a variety of Nintendo card sets, including classic NES game cards, Pokémon-e cards, and cards designed for specific Game Boy Advance titles. Compatible games such as Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 could use e-Reader cards to unlock additional stages and gameplay features, while other card sets offered standalone mini-games or extra content.
Some e-Reader features also support connections between the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo GameCube using a Game Boy Advance GameCube link cable. This allowed compatible titles such as Animal Crossing to receive additional content through scanned cards. With its unusual combination of physical cards and digital content, the e-Reader remains one of Nintendo’s most distinctive Game Boy Advance accessories.
