Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko - Game Boy Color is a side-scrolling platformer that brings Gex’s television-inspired adventure to Nintendo’s handheld. After Agent Xtra is kidnapped by his longtime enemy Rez, Gex heads back into the Media Dimension to rescue her, traveling through stages filled with movie and television parodies, enemies, collectibles, and the wisecracking gecko’s trademark humor.
Unlike the 3D console versions, the Game Boy Color edition adapts the adventure into traditional 2D platforming. Players run, jump, climb walls, use Gex’s tail attack, and explore large themed stages while collecting items needed to progress. Levels draw inspiration from genres such as horror, science fiction, and action entertainment, giving each area its own visual theme, obstacles, and enemies.
Developed by David A. Palmer Productions and published by Eidos Interactive in 1999, the Game Boy Color version was released as Gex 3: Deep Pocket Gecko in North America and under the Deep Cover Gecko name in Europe. Its colorful 2D platforming, media parodies, and portable adaptation of Gex’s third adventure make it an appealing choice for Gex fans and Game Boy Color collectors.
