Gladius - Xbox is a tactical role-playing game set in a fantasy world inspired by ancient Rome, gladiatorial combat, and mythological cultures. Players can follow either Valens or Ursula as they build and lead a school of gladiators, traveling between regions, entering tournaments, recruiting new fighters, and uncovering a larger conflict beyond the arena.
Gameplay features turn-based battles on grid-based arenas where positioning, character classes, equipment, terrain, and special abilities all influence the outcome. Players can recruit gladiators from a wide range of classes, customize their equipment, and develop individual fighters as the school gains experience and reputation. Combat also includes timing-based attack mechanics, encouraging players to combine tactical planning with carefully executed actions.
Developed and published by LucasArts in 2003, Gladius blends traditional role-playing progression with squad-based tactical combat and gladiator management.
