Based on the 2004 film and book, the game follows Harry’s third year at Hogwarts as he navigates the threat of escaped convict Sirius Black and the soul-sucking Dementors. For the first time, you can switch between the three friends at will (except during character-specific trials), using their unique talents to solve puzzles that require teamwork.
The gameplay is defined by these specialized abilities: Harry is the most agile and the only one who can cast the Patronus Charm and Carpe Retractum to grapple across ledges. Hermione is the most powerful spellcaster, possessing exclusive magic like Glacius to freeze water and Reparo to fix broken objects. Ron acts as the group's "rogue," using his "Weasley sense" to find secret panels and utilizing Lumos Duo to reveal hidden paths. Beyond the main quest, you can explore a vastly expanded Hogwarts, fly the Hippogriff Buckbeak over the castle grounds, and collect a new set of Wizard Cards.
