Karateka for Atari 7800 is a cinematic martial arts adventure that follows a lone hero on a mission to rescue Princess Mariko from the fortress of the evil warlord Akuma. Players must fight their way through waves of guards and dangerous obstacles as they journey toward a final confrontation deep within the stronghold.
Unlike many action games of its era, Karateka emphasizes timing, positioning, and one-on-one combat rather than constant button-mashing. Players can perform punches and kicks while carefully managing distance from opponents, creating tense battles where a single mistake can have serious consequences.
