Developed by Brownie Brown (the team behind Mother 3) and published by Nintendo, the game combines classic JRPG mechanics with a unique astrology-based battle system that’s deeply integrated into both combat and storytelling.
You play as a group of magic school students who are separated after their teacher mysteriously disappears during an interplanetary excursion. As one of the classmates, you'll journey from planet to planet, reuniting with your friends and confronting a cosmic threat that threatens the balance of the universe. Each character specializes in a different type of elemental magic—fire, wind, water, wood, or dark—and the strength of these elements fluctuates based on planetary alignments.
Combat plays out in traditional turn-based style, but the twist lies in the game’s astrological magic system. The positioning of planets affects the potency of your spells, requiring you to pay attention to celestial events and time your attacks for maximum impact. Players cast spells using the stylus, with visual flair and variety in magical effects.
Outside of battles, you’ll explore colorful, isometric environments, solve puzzles, interact with eccentric NPCs, and navigate a lighthearted narrative packed with humor and heart. The DS’s dual screens are used effectively to track planetary alignment, display maps, and deliver charming sprite-based animations. The game also includes wireless co-op multiplayer for spell-slinging action with friends.
