Mario Sports Mix - Wii is an arcade-style sports game that brings Mario and friends together for four different events: basketball, volleyball, dodgeball, and hockey. Players can choose from familiar characters including Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, and Donkey Kong, each with different strengths, speeds, and special abilities that influence how they perform across the various sports.
Gameplay uses the Wii Remote for actions such as shooting, passing, serving, spiking, checking, and throwing, with simplified controls designed for fast multiplayer matches. Each sport features themed courts and arenas filled with Mario-inspired hazards and items, while character-specific special moves can be used to create scoring opportunities or disrupt opponents. The game supports solo play and local multiplayer, along with tournament-style progression that unlocks additional content and characters.
