Players take control of Solid Snake as he infiltrates the nuclear weapons facility on Shadow Moses Island, where a rogue special forces unit has seized control and threatens to launch a nuclear strike.
Gameplay emphasizes stealth, tactical movement, and carefully avoiding enemy detection while using weapons and equipment when confrontation becomes necessary. The remake incorporates mechanics from Metal Gear Solid 2, including first-person aiming, hanging from ledges, and additional environmental interactions. Players encounter memorable boss battles, explore interconnected areas of the facility, and uncover a story filled with espionage, military technology, and shifting alliances.
