Mother - Famicom
Description
Description
Mother - Famicom, released in Japan as MOTHER (マザー), is a role-playing game set in a contemporary world rather than a traditional fantasy setting. Players follow a young boy named Ninten as he leaves his home to investigate strange paranormal events, gathering companions and uncovering a mystery involving psychic powers, alien forces, and the origins of a mysterious melody.
Gameplay uses turn-based battles and traditional RPG progression while giving the genre a distinctive modern setting filled with towns, schools, hospitals, highways, and everyday items. Ninten and his allies can use PSI abilities, equip weapons and protective gear, and travel across a large overworld while speaking with unusual characters and solving story-driven objectives. The game mixes humor, emotional moments, and surreal encounters throughout the adventure.
Developed by Ape and published by Nintendo in 1989, Mother was originally released exclusively for the Japanese Family Computer and features Japanese-language text. It later became known internationally as the first entry in the series that includes EarthBound, making its distinctive setting, writing, music, and historical importance especially appealing to RPG fans and Famicom collectors.
