Petz: Hamsterz 2 (also known as Hamster to Kurasou in Japan) is a virtual pet simulation developed by HI Corporation and published by Ubisoft for the Nintendo DS in late 2007. Technically a localized port of a Japanese title, this "sequel" shifts away from the talking animals and wacky costumes of the first Hamsterz Life, focusing instead on a grounded and realistic depiction of hamster care. Players start their journey when a virtual cousin asks them to care for a new baby hamster, tasking them with building the perfect habitat across multiple rooms and specialized cages.

The gameplay is technically built around a deep breeding and genetics system. Players can raise up to 12 different hamster breeds—including two unlockable exotic varieties—and can pair differently-gendered animals to produce adorable baby hamsters that inherit physical traits from their parents. Interaction is handled via the DS Touch Screen for petting, feeding, and cleaning, while the shoulder buttons control a fully rotational camera that allows players to zoom in or view the cage from various angles. The game features over 200 unlockable accessories, ranging from functional water bottles and food dishes to the iconic "hamster wheel," where the physics-based animation of hamsters running—and occasionally being flung out—provides a layer of emergent comedy.

Technically, Petz: Hamsterz 2 prioritizes a clean, organized menu system that avoids the clutter often found in early 2000s pet sims. It features local wireless connectivity, enabling players to visit a friend's cage or engage in competitive mini-games such as the Hamz Cup. Unlike the previous entry, this version removes microphone voice-recognition in favor of more precise button and stylus inputs to maintain a consistent performance. As of 2026, the game is fully playable on original hardware and is backward compatible with the Nintendo 3DS; notably, users should be aware that while the North American box art is labeled "Hamsterz 2," the actual game card label frequently reads "Hamsterz Life 2".
