Pitfall! - Intellivision is a classic side-scrolling adventure that puts players in control of explorer Pitfall Harry as he races through a dangerous jungle in search of hidden treasure. The journey is filled with hazards including rolling logs, snakes, scorpions, campfires, crocodiles, and quicksand, requiring careful timing and route planning to survive.
Players have 20 minutes to collect as much treasure as possible while navigating a network of interconnected jungle screens. Pitfall Harry can run, jump, climb ladders, swing across pits on vines, and travel through underground passages that provide alternate routes. The challenge comes from balancing speed with precision, since collisions with hazards can cost valuable points or one of Harry’s limited lives.
Created by David Crane and published by Activision, Pitfall! became one of the defining games of the early 1980s and helped establish the side-scrolling platform adventure genre. The Intellivision release brings the influential design to Mattel’s console, making it an appealing choice for classic gaming fans, Activision collectors, and players building an Intellivision library.
