Description
Pokémon Sword marks the first mainline entry of the Pokémon series on a home console, introducing the 8th generation of the franchise set in the expansive Galar region. Players begin their journey by choosing between three new partner Pokémon—Grookey, Scorbunny, or Sobble—and embark on a quest to become the Champion by defeating eight specialized Gym Leaders. This version features the legendary Pokémon Zacian and introduces the Dynamax phenomenon, a powerful mechanic that allows Pokémon to grow to gargantuan sizes and gain massive stat boosts for three turns.
The gameplay introduces the Wild Area, a vast open expanse where players have full 360-degree camera control and can encounter Pokémon roaming freely in the overworld. Beyond traditional battling, the game features Pokémon Camp, where you can interact with your team, play with toys, and cook dozens of unique curry recipes to heal your party and gain experience. For further progression, the Poké Jobs system allows you to send boxed Pokémon on assignments for various corporations to earn rare items and experience points while they aren't in your active party.
Multiplayer is deeply integrated through the Y-Comm system, enabling Max Raid Battles where up to four players cooperate locally or online to take down powerful Dynamax Pokémon in hidden dens. Competitive trainers can enter the Battle Stadium for ranked or casual online matches, utilizing the new "Rental Teams" feature to try out high-level strategies without intensive breeding. The title also supports Surprise Trades and is fully compatible with Pokémon HOME, allowing for the transfer of your favorite companions from previous generations.
