Shining Force II - SEGA Genesis is a tactical role-playing game that follows Bowie, a young swordsman from the kingdom of Granseal, after an ancient evil is unleashed and threatens the land. Bowie gathers a growing band of allies known as the Shining Force and sets out across the world to confront invading armies, supernatural enemies, and the demon king Zeon.
Battle takes place on grid-based maps where each character moves and attacks according to individual statistics, weapons, magic, and class abilities. Players recruit warriors, mages, healers, archers, centaurs, and other unusual allies, then choose their party for each encounter. Characters earn experience, gain levels, equip new gear, and can be promoted into stronger classes. Exploration between battles includes towns, overworld travel, hidden areas, and optional discoveries.
Developed by Sonic! Software Planning and published by SEGA, Shining Force II was released in North America in 1994. The sequel expands on the original game with a larger world, more exploration, a broader roster of characters, and deeper tactical progression, making it one of the most prominent strategy RPGs in the SEGA Genesis library.
