Slalom - NES
Slalom for the Nintendo Entertainment System is an isometric skiing game that challenges players to race downhill courses filled with gates, obstacles, and sharp turns. Developed by Rare and released in the early days of the NES, the game puts players in control of a lone skier competing across multiple events, including downhill slalom, giant slalom, and ski jumping. The angled perspective gives the courses a sense of depth and speed that was impressive for its time.
Gameplay focuses on precise timing and quick reactions, as players weave through gates, avoid trees and moguls, and maintain speed to post the best possible times. Missing gates or crashing slows progress, while clean runs are rewarded with faster finishes and higher scores. Between events, players can visit shops to upgrade equipment, such as better skis and suits, which help improve performance on later courses. Bright visuals, smooth animation, and responsive controls make the action easy to understand but difficult to master.
