In the "Old Gen" version of Double Agent, players received a completely different game than the one released on Xbox 360. Developed by Ubisoft Montreal (the team behind Chaos Theory), this version is widely considered by fans to be the superior stealth experience. While it shares the same general plot—Sam Fisher going undercover within the John Brown's Army (JBA) terrorist group—the levels, mission structures, and even the way the story is told through flashbacks are unique to the original Xbox hardware.
The gameplay retains the beloved Light and Sound meters from Chaos Theory, favoring traditional "shadow-hugging" stealth over the 360 version’s more experimental daytime mechanics. It features a unique Loyalty Slider that visually tracks Sam's trust between the NSA and the JBA; balancing these interests is crucial, as leaning too far to one side can lead to immediate mission failure. Most notably, the Xbox version includes the Train Robbery mission and a fully playable co-op campaign with split-screen support, both of which are entirely absent from the "Next Gen" version.
