Super Huey UH-IX - Atari 7800 is a helicopter flight simulation that places players in the cockpit of an advanced experimental military aircraft. Using a first-person cockpit view, players learn to control the helicopter while monitoring instruments, radar, altitude, and other flight information as they take off, navigate the landscape, engage hostile forces, and attempt safe landings.
Gameplay offers several ways to experience the helicopter, including a flight training mode that introduces the controls and more demanding missions involving combat and rescue objectives. Players can use machine guns and missiles against enemy targets while managing the aircraft in flight. An arcade-oriented mode places greater emphasis on shooting and action, while the simulation elements require players to understand the helicopter’s movement and cockpit instruments.
Developed by Cosmi and published for the Atari 7800 by Atari Corporation in 1989, Super Huey UH-IX originated as a computer flight simulator before being adapted for the console.
