In The Sims 2 for Nintendo DS, the franchise takes a sharp detour from traditional life simulation into a surreal, objective-driven hotel management adventure. After your car breaks down in the middle of Strangetown, you are unexpectedly appointed the manager of the town’s only hotel. Your goal is to keep the business afloat by building new rooms—like a casino, nightclub, or bovine shrine—fulfilling guest requests, and managing the hotel’s "Sanity" meter, which replaces individual needs like hunger and hygiene with a single status bar.
The game is famously remembered for its dark and absurdist tone. As manager, you’ll deal with mob boss Frankie Fusilli, who might ask you to bury a wriggling suitcase in the desert, and fend off periodic alien invasions using a water pistol or your superhero alter-ego, the Ratticator. Because the game runs on the DS internal clock, events happen in real-time; however, "time traveling" (changing your system clock) is detected by the game and results in a permanent alien infestation of your hotel until the timeline is corrected.
