UFC Throwdown - PlayStation 2 brings the action of the Ultimate Fighting Championship to consoles with a roster of real UFC competitors and a combat system built around mixed martial arts. Players can step into the Octagon and use a combination of punches, kicks, takedowns, grappling, and submission holds to defeat opponents across a variety of one-on-one matches.
UFC Throwdown features fighters with different strengths and fighting styles, encouraging players to adjust their approach depending on the matchup. Strikers can work from a standing position, while wrestlers and submission specialists can take fights to the ground and look for an early finish. Matches can end by knockout, submission, or decision, reflecting the different paths to victory found in UFC competition.
Several game modes provide different ways to compete, including exhibition matches, tournaments, and a career-style experience. Players can also create a custom fighter and develop their abilities over time. With licensed UFC presentation, recognizable fighters, and a mix of striking and grappling mechanics, UFC Throwdown offers an early PlayStation 2 take on mixed martial arts competition.
