In XG3: Extreme G Racing, the adrenaline-fueled N64 franchise makes its high-definition leap into the "3D Era," delivering some of the fastest racing ever seen on the PlayStation 2. Developed by Acclaim Studios Cheltenham, the game pits you against 11 other riders on gravity-defying, supersonic bikes that look like they were pulled straight from the Akira anime. The core of the experience is its sheer sense of speed; once you hit the 1000G class, your bike can literally break the sound barrier, causing the screen to blur and the music to cut out as you outrun the sound of your own engine.
The gameplay is a mix of tactical management and high-speed combat. You start in the 200G speed class and earn credits to buy upgrades in the XG Mall, where you can improve your shields, ammunition capacity, and engine power. Unlike the previous games, weapons are now an optional purchase rather than a pickup, allowing you to customize your offensive and defensive arsenal—ranging from homing missiles to rear-firing mines. To master the 10 winding circuits, you’ll need to utilize air brakes for razor-sharp turns and manage your turbo carefully, as it shares the same energy pool as your shields.
