In Evel Knievel for the Game Boy Color, you step into the star-spangled boots of the world's most famous daredevil. Developed by Tarantula Studios and published by Rockstar Games in 1999, this title focuses on Knievel’s high-stakes career as he attempts to survive gravity-defying stunts across 20 levels in four iconic cities: Las Vegas, Los Angeles, London, and San Francisco. The game’s primary "characters" are Evel himself and his stable of motorcycles, ranging from a humble 250cc Scrambler to the powerful 750cc Ultimate.
The gameplay is a punishing physics-based trial where timing and bike angle are everything. You must manage your speed and mid-air rotation to navigate obstacles like moguls, ramps, and flaming hoops without landing on your head—an event that triggers a comical but frustrating "Bad Luck" crash screen. Each city culminates in a Grand Finale stunt, such as jumping over rows of buses at Wembley Stadium or the famous Caesars Palace fountain, where you must precisely stick the landing to progress. While the learning curve is famously steep, the game rewards success with "buckaroos" to unlock better gear and iconic white-and-blue leathers.
