In the 2006 Disney-Pixar Cars, you return to Radiator Springs to help Lightning McQueen prepare for a new Piston Cup season. Set shortly after the events of the first film, the game functions as a series of training exercises and challenges led by the town’s residents, culminating in a high-stakes showdown against Chick Hicks. While the console versions featured an open-world driving experience, the DS version is a unique collection of 12 character-driven minigames and 4 top-down racing stages.
The gameplay leans heavily into the DS hardware, requiring you to use the stylus and microphone for almost every task. You’ll navigate Mater’s tow hook to fish for junk in the river, blow into the microphone to wake up sleeping tractors, and tap individual lug nuts during frantic pit-stop segments. The Piston Cup races utilize a top-down perspective where you must weave through slower traffic while managing your boost and jumping over hazards to secure first place. Notably, while the console versions featured Owen Wilson, the DS version features Keith Ferguson as the voice of Lightning McQueen.
