Batman: Arkham Origins – Blackgate for the Nintendo 3DS is a side-scrolling action-adventure that expands on the Arkham Origins storyline from a different perspective. Set shortly after the events of Arkham Origins, the story follows Batman as he responds to a massive riot inside Blackgate Prison. With dangerous criminals taking control of the facility, Batman must infiltrate the prison and restore order while uncovering a deeper conspiracy unfolding within its walls.
The narrative features encounters with several familiar villains, including the Joker, Black Mask, and Penguin, each controlling different sections of the prison. Gameplay blends stealth, combat, and exploration, using a 2.5D perspective that emphasizes careful movement and gadget use. Batman relies on tools such as the Batarang, Grapnel Gun, and Detective Mode to solve puzzles, navigate environments, and outmaneuver enemies. As players progress, upgrades and new abilities open additional paths, encouraging backtracking and discovery.
