Monster Hunter Generations serves as a high-octane celebration of the franchise's decade-long history, blending nostalgic locations with radical new combat mechanics. Set across four distinct villages—the new high-altitude Bherna and the returning fan-favorites Kokoto, Pokke, and Yukumo—the game tasks you with joining the Wycademy to research and hunt a massive roster of over 100 monsters. The primary threat comes from the Fated Four, a group of flagship monsters that dominate the game’s various regions: the lightning-charged Astalos, the mountain-sized Gammoth, the bubble-wielding Mizutsune, and the sword-tailed Glavenus.
Combat is significantly expanded through the introduction of Hunting Styles and Hunting Arts, allowing for unprecedented character customization. You can choose from four distinct Styles—Guild (traditional), Striker (art-focused), Aerial (mid-air specialists), and Adept (counter-attack focused)—to fundamentally change how any of the 14 returning weapon types behave. Furthermore, the new Prowler Mode allows you to set aside your hunter and play directly as a Felyne. These cat-like warriors feature infinite stamina, nine lives, and specialized support actions, making them an excellent choice for newcomers or veterans looking for a faster-paced gathering experience.
