In Pokémon Omega Ruby, Game Freak returns to the beloved Hoenn region, reimagining the 2002 Game Boy Advance classic with the engine and 3D visuals of Pokémon X and Y. You play as a young trainer moving to Littleroot Town, where you receive your first partner—Treecko, Torchic, or Mudkip—and set out to complete the PokéDex while thwarting Team Magma, who seek to expand the world's landmass by awakening the legendary Groudon.
The gameplay significantly expands on the original with the inclusion of Mega Evolution and the brand-new Primal Reversion. Groudon can transform into Primal Groudon, reclaiming its ancient power and gaining the "Desolate Land" ability to nullify all Water-type attacks. A major post-game addition is the Delta Episode, a narrative arc where you soar through the sky on the back of Mega Rayquaza to stop an incoming meteor and battle the mythical Pokémon Deoxys. As of March 2026, the game remains a fan favorite for its "Super-Secret Bases" and the DexNav, a tool that allows you to "sneak" up on hidden Pokémon with rare moves or abilities.
